Will Nigeria Survive 2015?
Social critic and journalist, Simon Ateba, predicts that the year 2015 will make or mar Nigeria in this interesting piece. Simon wrote on his personal website, www.simonateba.com.

Read below:

“Nigeria, Africa’s most populous country with the biggest economy, will reach a boiling point in 2015. ‎With the Super Eagles of Nigeria missing in action at the African Nations Cup in January and a though general election taking place in February, the country would be thrown into chaos as the ruling People’s Democratic Party (PDP) and the Opposition All Progressives Congress (APC) all claim victory in the presidential election, even as Boko Haram terror group kills more people, bombs more places and takes over more territories in northern Nigeria.‎

The situation will be compounded by the tumbling oil prices, the falling revenues and instability in the Niger Delta with a possible re-emergence of the Niger Delta militants who have vowed to wreak havoc should President Goodluck Jonathan who hails from the oil-rich but dilapidated region fail to win re-election.

In-fighting within the two biggest political parties, the PDP and the APC, will lead to implosion within their ranks and the fall of many godfathers who will be consumed by rising stars angry at the establishment.

We may see a rise in assassinations and an increase in propaganda in 2015 as politicians battle for supremacy. ‎

In the north, unemployment will reach to the skies as investors shun the region and manufacturing companies relocate to the stable South. ‎Poverty will skyrocket in the region and Boko Haram will find it easier to recruit vulnerable youths.

Boko Haram itself will become more unpopular in the region as it kidnaps more girls, bombs more mosques and  churches and kills innocent people in market places and villages leaving more than two million people displaced and thousands of schools and businesses shut.‎

The Nigerian army will be overwhelmed and branded incapable and feckless by the general public.

Generally, Internet will continue to close down many businesses and many newspapers will cease to exist in their print form.‎

Online newspapers will become more and more popular, and more people will become more comfortable getting their information online rather than relying on the traditional media.

Advertisers will move in and embrace credible online platfor‎ms as the reading habits shift to the new media. Facebook, Twitter and LinkedIn will be the biggest winners in the social media category.

‎‎The United States of America may become more assertive as the February election threatens to break Africa’s most populous but troubled nation.

2015 will be a dangerous year for Nigeria and the country will emerge either split or more united”.
