The Dutch government banned the transport of poultry and eggs throughout the country on Sunday, November 16 after it confirmed a bird flu outbreak on a chicken farm.
The United Kingdom and The Netherlands have been placed on red alert after cases of bird flu were discovered on a duck farm in East Yorkshire, UK and a poultry farm in Hekendorp, close to Amsterdam.

The spokesperson for the Ministry for Economic Affairs, Jan van Diepen said that the exact strain of bird flu has not yet been established but it is deadly to poultry and can also be transmitted to humans.
The virus strain behind the bird flu case in Yorkshire, Northern England has also not been confirmed but British authorities have said that the risk to public health is very low.
All birds on the affected farms will be killed to avoid a further spread of the disease.
