Sanusi said citizens should "acquire what they need" to protect themselves from terrorist attacks carried out by Boko Haram
The Emir of Kano, Sanusi Lamido Sanusi has urged Nigerians to defend themselves against Boko Haram.
Sanusi also said citizens should "acquire what they need" to protect themselves from terrorist attacks carried out by the sect.
The former governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria stated this while speaking at a prayer meeting on Saturday, November 15.
He said in reference to Boko Haram:
“These people when they attack towns, they kill boys and enslave girls… People must stand resolute.”
“People must not assume that the crisis will not reach their area. If it comes, we are asking God to give us fortitude, but if He wishes to take martyrs from amongst us, we should be ready to give our lives,” Sanusi added.
The Emir also said that people must not rely totally on the army for protection. He said:
“People must not wait for soldiers to protect them. There are even instances where soldiers on ground ran away in the face of attack.”
Sanusi, while saying prayers for peace, also expressed optimism that Boko Haram would soon be conquered saying that “God will grant us victory over them.”
