The club spent more than £75m (€100m); €40m for Alexis Sanchez to make the switch to the Emirates and €60m for Callum Chambers,  Mathieu Debuchy and Danny Welbeck and those buys have proven worthwhile with Sanchez notching 13 goals in all competition for the Gunners; seven in the EPL.

The 65 year-old this time is wants to break the ‘reluctant spending’ he has been known for and is focusing on the attack whilst he has been criticised of not paying attention to the defence which is where the club needs fortification.

“There is a huge difference between the perception that people have of me and the reality: I’m not scared to spend money,’’ Wenger told reporters.

“If you go out with me one night, you will understand that.

"What I don’t like is to spend money that I don’t have. Now I have money so no problem spending it at all.

"What I fought against was spending money that would have put the future of the club in danger.”
Arsenal currently sits seventh, 13 opoints hshy of joint leaders, Chelsea and Manchester City; with a game against Liverpool later today.
