Chris Smalling, Wayne Rooney and Robin van Persie scored as Manchester United eased to victory over Hull. Smalling forced the ball across the line at the second attempt after Hull failed to clear Rooney’s corner.

England striker Rooney scored his fifth of the season from 20 yards after Van Persie’s lay-off before the Dutch striker added a third from similar range following Ander Herrera’s pass. United’s third successive win came despite an early Angel Di Maria injury.
